REVIT & BIM

All of engineeria major projects are modelled in 3D using Autodesk Revit mainly. This software allows integration into the federated model with the other consultants in a fully BIM compliant environment.

The image adjacent is our BIM Workflow model which describes our approach to digital collaboration, beginning with receipt of the Employer’s Information Requirements (EIR), development of the BIM Execution Plan (BIP) to allow collaborative working within the Common Data Environment (CDE).

Seamless coordination and ongoing clash detection are just two of the many benefits of working in this way and have proved invaluable on a number of our projects to date.

We run an regular in-house R&D group to discuss issues around BIM and methods to increase efficiency. Our BIM working practices are embedded into our ISO 9001 QMS procedure.

CLIMATE CHANGE

‘Structural Engineers Declare Climate and Biodiversity Emergency’
Since 2019, engineeria are signatories to the ‘structural engineers declare climate and biodiversity emergency’, a climate change initiative by the institution of structural engineers.

Within the firm, we continuously test and find ways and means to do all that we can to improve. This can vary from reducing the number of international flights we take, using the latest available drone technologies to remotely see and review items of interest, cycle to site and use public transport for travel amongst other initiatives. 

We are also pushing very hard in all stages of the design process to innovate and have a positive impact by calculating Embodied Energy regularly, Optimising design material use to its most appropriate ratio, retrofit structures/recycle materials rather than demolish and rebuild where we can and always suggest construction methodology with efficiency and the environment in mind.

MATERIAL CHOICE

We strive to choose the most efficient material for each project and
assist our clients by advising on the materials options, potential layout
adjustments that would unlock efficiencies or enable the use of a more
sustainable material, and by calculating embodied carbon to inform
decisions on materials

MINIMAL INTERVENTION

Sometimes the best solution can be to do nothing…..well not nothing but
to reuse what you already have in a better way to suit your current
needs, with careful design and localised structural strengthening unnecessary interventions can be omitted

RETROFIT

The reuse of existing structures is always considered first ahead of demolition and rebuild.

We pro-actively identify areas where there is potential to re-use existing structural elements, and are comfortable making suggestions to other members of the design team where we feel that minor changes in their requirements would allow the retention of structure which would otherwise be demolished.

Engineeria have a track record of taking a pragmatic approach to justifying the re-use of existing structural elements, where these may not perfectly fit within the strict requirements of design codes written exclusively with new build structures in mind. This is achieved by using first principles, in conjunction with detailed surveys and in-situ testing approaches where appropriate.
